Photographing Slot Canyons

I have just com­pleted my third trip to the slot canyons of the American Southwest. It is a breath­tak­ing place, some­what chal­len­ging tech­nic­ally, extremely reward­ing, and a sort of a spir­itu­al exper­i­ence. I would like to share a few thoughts about that place, about my pho­to­graph­ic tech­nique, and about the feel­ing of being there.

A Love of American Landscape

I have been inspired by the ideal­ism of the American land­scape and by its poten­tial, and I feel a need to cap­ture, to express, and to share it. I believe that there is some­thing power­ful and unique in that land that has the capa­city to keep inspir­ing people to reach for their stars.

Travels

My day-to-day job requires me to travel a lot. I beat my own record by vis­it­ing forty-six coun­tries in 2010. I wish I could travel every­where with my large format cam­era.

The Meaning of (Be)Longing

The (Be)Longing series com­prises frag­ments of a par­tic­u­lar land­scape. It is dif­fi­cult for me to express in words what I see in them but I am cer­tain that there are sev­er­al inter­con­nec­ted lay­ers to which I react emo­tion­ally.
